Design&Fashion | Safari-Sleek Mashup

Over the past few weeks we have been featuring a new blog series called Design&Fashion [sister, sister]. What started as a quick “picframe” project to pass the time, has now become a fun series of interior design and fashion sketch mashups! Check out our past Contempo-Mod and Glam-Rock mashups!!

For our third installment, we introduce:

Safari-Sleek Mashup

This sketch inspired us to take a walk on the wild side!!! There is a simple edginess to this look that creates intrigue and excitement! Like in Interior Design, we love the mixture of masculine and feminine used in this style; perhaps a little Tarzan meets Jane action – with a strong sense of individuality!

Here are some Safari-Sleek interiors that inspired us for this mashup:

We couldn’t call this a safari-sleek design with out the use of ANIMAL PRINT!! We love the | m i x t u r e | of pattern in this space; the stripe armchairs are a great compliment to the zebra print ottoman.

IMG_1808

The element of | c r e a t i v i t y | was not overlooked in this bedroom! Although a sophisticated take on a children’s room; the patterns, colors and textures are a prefect combination! They cut the animals out of scrapbook or wallpaper; GENIUS!!

Yummy | b l a c k | walls. Enough said. (…in steps animal print)

Designer Tip | DON’T BE AFRAID OF COLOR AND PATTERN.

Use them | t o g e t h e r | and often!!

IMG_1803

The elements in this room, while very | s i m p l e | they make a major statement. First off, THAT WALL!! Its hard to tell if it is a wallpaper or a tile feature, but either way, we LOVE!!

IMG_1802

Yes, please. Love everything about this. Outdoors | l o u n g e y | platform bed, chevron/stripe curtains (looks like they are reversible, LOVE).

IMG_1801

Owl on Leopard on Zebra | t e x t u r e | Unconventional, yet we still dig it!

IMG_1809

Mixing metal with wood, | e c l e c t i c | with brick, and lace with burlap.

Natural light for | d a y s |

IMG_1811

Simple elements of nature and safari were added to this | c o z y | bedroom. Loving the canopy drapes, jute rug and subtle animal prints strung throughout!

IMG_1814

The birch forest feature wall is an awesome way to bring the | o u t s i d e | in! The mixture of colors in this bedroom are a perfect combination and a great example of this safari-sleek mashup!

IMG_1816

This bright, vibrant space is not lacking | g r e e n |. Instead, boasts a tonal dance for the visual sences!

IMG_1818

Again, TEXTURE | a n d | ANIMAL PRINT!!

IMG_1820

Better yet….what | d o n t | we love about this room?? The nailhead design alone makes us smile!

IMG_1815

This is our favorite!! The space that we think encompasses where the fashion sketch could have been | i n s p i r e d | from!! From the deep navy sofa to the understated dining chandelier – this does it for us!!

Outside In | Living in Color!

Do you ever get tired of giving others directions to your house and telling them it’s the beige house on the left, and them saying which one?! Some how over the years we have gotten too comfortable with blending in and sticking with one of the many shades of beige when it comes to the exterior of our homes. Thankfully the beige train stops here, and we have noticed more and more homeowners taking that risk and seeing a big reward from it. According to Netscape Home and Living 42% of people in america  say that blue is their favorite color.  However, we rarely see any blue homes.  Below you can see a few ways blue can be executed correctly and how drastically your house can change.

If you have brick try using blue as an accent color to highlight those added details.

Those of you ready for more of a change, try more of a navy paint with white trim and even a red door makes this house pop!

However, a bright yellow door is also a great look!

Statistics also tells us that worldwide the color purple comes in as our second favorite.  This may come as a surprise to some of you, but this color is no stranger in design.  Purple is a great accent color for interiors because it works in both masculine and feminine spaces.  So we are not surprised that in 2014 purple will make it’s way curbside!

Using a great shade of purple with white trim really let’s your landscape shine!

Mixing a lighter shade with the darker roof is another interesting look!

If your not ready to make such a drastic commitment try just the doors and maybe a few accents.

By choosing a darker plum shade and mixing in the gold hardware you really see the mix between masculine and feminine and how stunning it is.

Remember curb appeal is a major factor when selling a home, it is the first impression your house makes on guests.  It is about time we show the exterior of our homes a little love too, it’s been a long time coming.  Go out and make a change.  It’s time we bring a little personality to our homes after all they are one of your biggest investments, take pride in them!
