5 Ways To Upgrade Your Kitchen On A Budget
Many of us are tired of our old, outdated kitchen, but we don’t have the money to remodel. So, what exactly are our other options? There are many inexpensive things that you can do to give your kitchen that much needed face-lift, and in some cases, a whole new look and feel. Let's get crafty and see how easy these DIY projects really are!
Rule number one, make the most of what you’ve got! Assuming that your cabinets are in good shape, there are many things you can do to them to make a huge change. Try sanding them down and adding a new color stain to them or paint them to alter the entire look of the room. Of course, if they are currently painted, you will need to buy paint stripper and remove the paint. Then, sand them down and stain them. This can be very time consuming, but it will save you a bundle! You can also get creative and add a new surface to your cabinets. Add chalkboard paint to a couple of the doors for quick memos, grocery lists, or even a menu! You can even get quotes painted onto your cabinets for a positive reminder each day!
Next, you can modify the cabinets. If the cabinets are not falling off the wall, you can change the look by changing the doors, molding, and more. Replace all of the doors (which is way cheaper than buying new cabinets) or even remove a few doors for an open shelf style. Adding new hardware to your cabinets can also do wonders for the space. Find new shiny knobs that complement the décor, and your cabinets might just look brand new!
Then, you can change up your countertops. There are many new counter materials out there in addition to inexpensive granite. Laminate countertops are an inexpensive option and offer a very large variety of designs that look like high end granite or soapstone countertops! With each different style you prefer, you can change your counters to fulfill any ideas in your mind.
How about a new backsplash?! There are actually peel and stick wall tiles that are reasonably priced you can use for a backsplash. You could also choose to use wallpaper that imitates the look of tile as another inexpensive choice.
Our last tip for renovating your kitchen is to suggest updating your lighting fixtures! If the lighting that you already have is not sufficient, maybe add under cabinet lighting that will add a decorative touch as well as extra lighting. They typically come in sets and are easy to install, so you can add them to your existing upper cabinets for more lighting in the space!
