Day 18: Renningers Antique Market
Hey everyone!! We are a day late due to the fact that we spent all day yesterday walking around the Renningers Antique Market.
It was amazing!
Words can not describe the experience, therefore I am going to show it to you from the perspective of my iPhone (and a little from my Cannon due to the death of said iPhone). So, here goes....
First off, Renningers is located in Mt. Dora, Florida off of Highway 441. Here in arial view from their website.
"Located on 117 acres of scenic, rolling land, in beautiful Lake County, the heart of Central Florida. Amid spreading oaks, garlands of Spanish moss waving gently from their branches, you'll find the best of both worlds!"
The antique center, farmers and flea markets are open all year round on the weekends. But once a month in January, February and November they host what is called "The Antique Extravaganza". Thousands of vendors set up shop Friday, Saturday and Sunday to showcase their unique artifacts and vintage finds. It is truly a sight to see. The amount of "stuff" that one can consume is overwhelming and you really have to know what you are looking for in order to stay sane!!
We only go to get around a quarter of the show. We weren't looking for anything in particular - just a chance to take in all the interesting items people had for sale. You name it, they had it.
Like many of the vendors' pieces at the show, theres a story behind these handcrafted candle holders above. Bena Greene is a fellow interior designer who fell into a new hobby 6 weeks ago when she accidentally broke her grandmothers chandelier. With the broken pieces, she began to create amazing glass sculptures. The great thing about them is that they be flipped up or down to change either their functional use or decorative appearance. It was really difficult picking out the pictures to show you! I wish I could have posted all 75! I think these provide a small idea to the reality of this "extravaganza". Can not wait till January!!

I want to leave you with my favorite booth from the show. Or at least my favorite from the 1/4th of the show we got through. And that alone took 3 hours!!
Laura and Rick Nickerson have made a business out of their hobby for antiques and garden decor. Damed "Gardentiques", they travel the eastern coast to display their timeworn treasures. We were especially impressed with the staging of their booth. It was by far the most eye-pleasing and stylish! We found that it was easier to see each individual piece and how they could become a part of the home. Their unique sense of color and quirky artistry were are true delight and was a highlight to the day! You can check out their website to see when they will be back to Renningers here.
