Using the mixture of rustic and modern design elements, we created this stylish and functional home for our clients. Photos by Simo Drissi Photography
Cecily and Jason are a young, professional couple who were looking to combine both of their very different styles into one. The concept was to bring Cecily’s interest for contemporary design and Jason’s love of rustic. The major challenge in this design was correcting decisions made by the previous homeowners.
In order to maximize the space functionally and visually, we chose a white wall color with a hint of blue to go though out the house. We wrapped wallpaper around the stair well walls; this created a consistency from the living into the dining room.
The wine bar in the breakfast nook was a creative renovation from boring upper cabinets (which we had moved into the laundry room to replace the wire shelves – adaptable design!). Subtle sparkly wallpaper is the backdrop to a custom wine and liquor bar. The shelves are made salvaged wood beams with LED lighting. This is an example of how we used mixture of feminine and masculine.
The kitchen needed the most love! Previously wrapped with black and white stripped wallpaper and oak cabinets, we made a major transformation by painting the cabinets. Visual interest is in the backsplash by using a mesh-mounted tile with gray grout to contrast and highlight the tile pattern.
One of our favorite features in this home is how we were able to create one of a kind looks with the simple use of paint! The man room boasts a stenciled birch forest while the half bath entertains a bold horizontal stripe.
