Styles That Are “Lighting” Up

As the year starts to come to a close and a new year is approaching, interior design styles are ever-evolving. When you break down a cohesive style, there are a couple of key elements that can make or break the design. The different types of lighting fixtures you choose can really elevate a room or blend into the background. These are some trendy options that we have noticed recently that can easily upgrade your room in seconds.

Natural Fixtures

The bohemian style has really taken over the past couple years. We’ve seen this from fully boho to a more chic take; either way some people don’t worry about the lighting fixture as much as their décor when it comes to styling their retreat. To help maintain a healthy, relaxing vibe, it works best if you include lots of texture like basket weaving or bamboo. And keep the shape interesting; don’t be afraid to oversize your lighting a little to add drama since the theoretical weight of these chandeliers are so airy.

Updating your lighting can make a huge difference in a space and if you keep the style simple but creative, your space can take on a whole new look. These pieces are pretty flexible in what styles or rooms they can be used in. Whenever we choose to use these modern-takes on traditional chandeliers, our clients love them!

Hanging Pendants

These are definitely hip trend that has become more relevant and sought-after. Hanging pendants often come in clusters that add visual interest to a room. Or, we see them in a straight line to fit and stretch the appearance of a room. We’ve seen a wide variety of these in modern foyers to farmhouse dining rooms. They mainly add ambience lighting to a focused area and are used for more aesthetic purposes.

Find It Style It: Transitional

Transitional design is a very popular look that lots of homeowners achieve without trying. It is the blend of modern and traditional; in our opinion, it offers the most flexibility. It offers the perfect blend of cushioned surfaces and clean lines. This is perfect for evolving families and the casual family. Instead of swimming through Pinterest and other websites, we’ve compiled an easily applicable look that you can put together yourself! Of course, these are only suggestions, so feel free to stray a little and put your own spin on things! While you’re on the website, look under “similar items” or “recently bought together” for further personalization and items. If you’re on Wayfair, look under “similar items” or “recently bought together” for further options of similar items.

Our Projects

Here is a perfect example of a recent transitional room we created for a client! A lot of times we have to work with some of their previous furniture pieces, which makes transitional a popular style option. As you can tell, this family room looks inviting, but still clean and updated. We opted for a white sectional so it wouldn’t feel heavy being such a large piece already. The console tables behind the couch provide an extra surface and storage space while incorporating modern looks. The dark beams on top help tie in the different wood tones throughout the room and the blue-painted built-ins give a refreshing feel to the room.

Here is another look at a transitional space we have done in the past. The neutral color palette seems modern despite the comfortable, traditional furniture pieces. Some unique decor items and a simple layout help update the style, which is an easy fix for a lot of people. When it comes to transitional design, it helps to choose a color scheme and stick with that. We recommend keeping it neutral at the base (walls and large furniture pieces) then you can express your true style though accent chairs, rugs, and pillows. This will help keep the space cohesive and easy to rearrange in the future!
