Add Fall Style to Your Porch

Autumn is an especially popular time of year to do some porch decorating, as it instantly gets you into the rustic spirit of the season. While barrels of hay, dried cornstalks, and dried leaf garlands are classic decorative accents for front steps and porches, this year, try incorporating some new ideas into your fall porch dΓ©cor for a sophisticated spin that will set you apart from your neighbors!

Add some mood lighting and sculptural interest to your front stoop by mixing in decorative lanterns of various sizes into your harvest-themed arrangement. Vary the heights of the lanterns and group in odd numbers for an intriguing set-up. Fill your lanterns with battery-operated candles to ensure they stay glowing, no matter the weather.

While orange and yellow will always be fall’s signature colors, this year try decorating with pumpkins and gourds in less typical hues, like white, green, and even gray. If you can’t find varieties in unusual colors, try painting some grocery store finds. Using various colors will give your porch an unexpected touch that most won’t have, or even think of. It’s ok to go the traditional route, but it’s also ok to veer off a little bit. The porch is yours, and your take on autumn can be whatever you want it to be!

Take another unusual route with your urns and pots this season and fill them with unexpected plants and flowers. Check with your local nurseries for ideas on what is in-season and which less-often-seen varieties pair well together. The perfect plant can definitely bring in the feeling of fall while also making your yard look more appealing. Out with the old summer plants and in with the new!

Lastly, you can add a festive wreath to your front door to get everyone in the mood for all that fall has to offer, which includes Thanksgiving! You can make your own wreath or purchase one at your local crafts store. Just make sure that it incorporates all of the other colors in your porch space. Bring in the fall and let the fun begin!

Porch & Patio Clean Up – The Right Way

The fresh warm air of spring is here! We’re going to start migrating to our porches and patios more often now, so let’s get them tidied up. We have constructed an easy 5-step plan to making your porch and patio looks brand new. We know you’re thinking, β€œCan’t I just use a pressure washer?” Pressure washers will actually cause severe damage to your outside surfaces over time, especially wood. To keep them looking clean and in great condition, follow our quick, little how-to.

Sweep

Start by sweeping the entire area. Anything that gets left from the broom will stick when it gets wet and will become a much bigger pain to deal with than just sweeping.

Hose It Down: Part I

Hose down the plants on and around the area, because by doing this, it will help whatever soap gets on the plants just slide off. If you have a garden, this is a very important step.

Stains

Try to tackle stains first. Ways to take care of stains depends on the different surfaces you’re dealing with. With the right product, it should be quick, fast, and easy no matter the surface.

Deck Brush

Again depending on the type of surface, select your cleaning solution and follow the directions to dilute it. Use a deck brush, or a stiff push broom, to really create some strength. Dip it in the bucket, get the surface wet, and use some serious elbow grease.
