Romance in the Home: Design Addition

As we approach Valentine’s Day and celebrate the month of romance- it is imperative that we add some spice into our space to celebrate with our loved ones! Valentine’s Day is a holiday that can easily be overlooked when it comes to home decor as we start to put away all of our winter and Christmas decorations, but these few simple additions and fixes to your current decor can easily add that dash of romance you have been missing in your space, without breaking the bank or requiring a lot of pre-planning!

1. Candles

Candles are such a simple addition to any room within your home, that can really spark romance. Whether it is your favorite sultry-smelling candle or a collection of tea lights that trail your loved one to a surprise, the slow burn of the candle will be sure to ignite the figurative flame you’ll be wanting this Valentine’s Day.

2. Pop of Red/Pink

When it comes to the color red, psychologists say that it is the hue that provokes the strongest emotions out of any other color. While most people associate the color red with anger and fury, it is also closely linked to feelings of passion, power, desire, and excitement. If red is too bold for your taste, shades of pink are a great alternative to add pops of romantic colors into your space. Pink is said to be the “feminine” version of red, more closely associated with calmness, love, and kindness. Whatever route you decide to take, these subtle pops of reds and pinks in your space are a great way to re-vamp your home just in time for the holiday.

3. Cozy Blanket

Who doesn’t love a warm and cozy blanket on an average night, let alone a night dedicated to snuggling up with your significant other or loved ones? We all most likely have blankets laying around the house, so setting out the perfect throw blanket to share while you indulge in a movie or sweet treats can help bring you closer together- while adding an extra level of comfort to the night!

4. Ambient Lighting

Different levels of lighting within any space can help play with the feeling and atmosphere you are trying to emulate within your home. Adding dimmable lights, lamps, sconces, chandeliers, candles, and other sources of light can help you really “set the mood” within your interior space!

5. Flowers

Not only do flowers make the perfect gift for your significant other this upcoming holiday season, but they are also a great way to add life to your interior space. Enhance your home with a bold colored flower for Valentine’s Day like red or pink roses, or offer a sense of peace and “true love” with a bouquet of white roses or other beautiful flowers. Whatever avenue you decide to take, this addition to your design will be sure to intensify the romance in your home!

We hope that these simple ideas will help you achieve the romantic feeling within your interior space just in time for Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air this season, and loving your interior space is just as important as loving one another!

Transitioning to Fall Decor

Fall is almost upon us, and as we are transitioning into the new season we have some fast and simple ideas to help reshape your space. Among the many spaces in your home, some that are quite simple to decorate include the coffee table, living sofa, dining table, and mantle. Getting ready for the holidays seems to spark creativity and a need to fill all the nooks and crannies in your home adding a festive touch to the space.

On the coffee table, accessories like; faux pumpkins and acorns, as well as candles that smell like pumpkin pie or apple cider really fill the room with the feeling of fall. An arrangement of faux sunflowers and warm-toned leaves can make the perfect centerpiece for any table. Furthermore, your mantle is also an easy place to set some Autumn decor. It can be sprinkled with some leafy garland, twinkle lights, pine cones, cotton stems, or even some classic candles making the space feel cozy.

Whenever you are decorating you should always go back to that rule of thumb “less is more.” It’s also important to consider the types of accessories we choose for a space and the material they are made from. We recommend spending the extra dollar on a few good items rather than a bunch of pieces that don’t necessarily give that wow factor. Sometimes certain decorations can seem overused or tacky, but hopefully, with this inspiration, you can take away ideas on how to get your home ready for those upcoming holiday family gatherings.

Inspired by the warm tones of the season’s leaves, an assortment of throw pillows in the same colorway was chosen along with a throw blanket.

Let’s not forget that famous pumpkin pillow. We always need one of those!

Don’t feel pressured to stick to the typical orange, red, and yellow tones to style for fall. Layering neutrals such as whites, off-whites, and browns are just as beautiful and eye-catching.  Add a touch of greenery here and there and you’ll be set! Faux eucalyptus or sage are great choices for that.

This dining table setting steers away from the usual and is not covered in pumpkins like we tend to see quite often. Instead, it uses greenery as its focal point draped along the center of the table. Depth is added through a layering of neutrals with subtle shades of yellow, red, and green. Still expressing an autumn vibe without being so literal.

This striking mantle design showcases candles, faux flowers, greenery, wooden pumpkins, and fabric-wrapped pumpkins. This decor choice complements the minimalist design approach creating visual interest without being too overbearing. Something to think about here is the addition of the framed mirror. This is a great approach to consider in absence of a television or piece of artwork.

This simple décor shows visual symmetry without using the same type of object. Don’t be afraid to change things up on either side of a focal point, both asymmetry and symmetry are important in any space and can be represented through visual weight. Here a larger vase in glass on one side balances with a pairing of three smaller wooden candelabrums on the other.

The above image is also a great reminder for us to always design from floor to ceiling. Include all surfaces of your home even your floor!  A wicker basket with a pillow and throw blanket add a lived-in look that is inviting and cozy for the cooler weather to come. Fall is the perfect time to break out all those additions especially anything that is plaid patterned.

We hope you consider all these decor ideas and FALL into the season’s spirit!
