Splashing Into Summer: Seasonal Design

As the weather starts heating up it's time to think about ways to keep our homes cool in the sweltering summer heat, remembering to switch out our spring floral decorations, or possibly our winter holiday decorations with bright and bold summer decor, and get the patio area summer-ready.

Here in Florida, we know a thing or two about the summer heat with our temperatures averaging around 95 degrees Fahrenheit from June through August! Window treatments and bedding selections can help keep the home cooler during this time, as well as the colors used throughout the design of the home can help the space feel cooler. Summer is the perfect time to try something new with bright colors and bold patterns to add a pop to your space. As well, there is no better time than the summer to create your perfect patio for days by the pool or glasses of wine during the warm nights.

Keeping Cool:

All of the sunlight the summer brings means heat through the windows of our homes. Blinds and black-out liners placed behind the drapery can help reduce the amount of light and heat coming into the space. Using a bright color for the drapery is perfect for the summer months as well as lighter tones to reflect the heat away from the space.

Along with changing the window treatments in the home, bedding should be switched as it gets warmer to keep individuals cooler at night. Put away thick blankets and comforters and add cotton sheets and a duvet to keep you cool and comfortable while you're sleeping.

For a big change, try adding seasonal summer bedding to your collection to soak up the most of summer.

Adding Greenery:

Adding greenery to your space brings the outdoors in without having to be out in the heat. If you are looking for a new hobby, try out your green thumb this summer, but faux plants work just fine on a shelf, table, or tray.

Trying Something New:

Navy blue cabinets are trending in the design world right now but we absolutely love this bright red door mixed with the blue palette in this kitchen design. Adding pops of color like this throughout your home whether it's a door, accent wall, or furniture pieces will go great during the summer months and make a bold statement the rest of the year.

Switching out throw pillows for the season is a great way to welcome the summertime.

Whether you choose a single pop of color, a classic coastal style, or a bold mixture of pattern and color it is sure to make your home feel like summer is here.

The Patio:

Our patios will get the most use during the summertime with pool days and wine nights. Here are some ideas to inspire you to create the patio of your dreams and spend the best days of the year out on.

Summer is the time for memories, sunshine, and fun designs! Don't be afraid to experiment with your design style and choose brighter, bolder elements or keep it classic and add a nautical style to your existing space. Hello Summer!
